There are several
types of
affiliate software application solutions. Some are dedicated for this purpose and
others are part of a larger e-commerce or related solution. Each option
has a tradeoff in terms of cost, control, and features. Depending on
your online sales strategy, market, products, resources, and affiliate
program objectives you can
compare affiliate software application solutions and networks from more than one type:
- Hosted Solution - the software is running on the vendor's servers where it is managed and maintained for you.
- Installed Solution - the software is installed and runs on your own servers.
- Included in an Affiliate Network - Usually a hosted solution
having a large network of affiliates. Payment is typically consolidated
to the affiliates.
- Included in a Shopping Cart - Most affiliate management solutions
will integrate to many shopping carts. However, several shopping carts
also have some features found in standalone affiliate tracking
solutions. If you are also looking for a shopping cart platform then
consider this option as well.
- Included in an MLM Solution - MLM software should be considered,
even if you don't need all the downline/geneology and other MLM
specific features. Why? Multi-level marketing and Affiliate marketing
have several overlapping concepts:

- Need for self-administration
- Payment systems
- Sales tracking
- Integration with product ordering systems
- Included in a Website Builder System. There are several packages
which help you get a site up quickly while including all the necessary
